ASTROLOGY TIDBITS FOR NOVEMBER:
You guys might not know this, but I’m an astrology geek, so I thought I could use this space to be weird at you about the stars. Two really cool things are happening in the skies above us in November:
On 12 November, the north node of the moon enters Virgo, where it will stay until May of 2017. The north node of the moon represents areas and experiences that might not come so naturally to us – areas for work and improvement; and Virgo is all about order, cleanliness, service, and attention to detail. From a work and business perspective, this might mean that we’re entering a time where it’s particularly important for us to focus on the details, to strive for better processes, to create order in our life – to be a little more yellow-brained, really. Personally, I’m going to make it a point in the coming year to keep my desk a little cleaner. :) What planning have you been putting off that you can make time for in the next year? What will you do to take advantage of this natural opportunity for growth and order?
On 26 November, Saturn is at exact “square” to Neptune – meaning that when viewed on a chart, they’re at a perfect 90 degree angle from one another. “Squares” represent natural tension and conflict; while sometimes negative, mostly squares represent the kind of tension that stimulates real action. Saturn and Neptune are powerful, slow-moving planets, and this arc of their relationship to each other has taken a long time – the cycle actually began in 1989. Saturn is the planet of restriction, limitation, responsibility, and structure; Neptune represents intuition, spiritual enlightenment, mercy, and compassion. When these planets are at odds, we need to take responsibility for our emotions; be strategic about how to manifest what’s important to us; utilize conscious action and mindfulness to access our spirituality or belief systems; and make sure we get plenty of sleep – seriously! This is a great time to tackle creative projects we’ve long put off; or put structure to ideas we’ve let stay on the backburner. And this is another long phase – it won’t be until the end of 2016 that the square closes, and the cycle won’t begin again until 2025. So don’t miss this chance to connect your intuition with your practicality. What moves you – and what can you do about it? How can you make those passions reality?

It depends on the game and personal taste, but one thing I’ve noticed fairly frequently in games that I’ve had trouble enjoying is limited audio-visual feedback. You can have poor tutorials, imprecise gameplay, or even frustrating level design, but none of those stick out to me quite as much as audio-visual feedback that is missing, poorly implemented, or glossed over. This ranges from menu UI to damage sfx; if the game doesn’t adequately inform me in an non-obtrusive way that I’ve performed an action/changed sub-menus/completed the quest/acquired a new companion, then it’s likely not going to be a game I can stick with.

Toshiya Yamanaka
It’s true, a fine gentle-tumblrer
posted this a little while ago (and introduced me to Mr. Yamanaka’s
wonderful music), but I was not satisfied with the sound of that upload (nothing personal, of course!). I adjusted the instrument balance in the uncredited .s98 rip to more accurately reflect the ingame drum/FM balance, and to be more pleasing.
It is strange that Mr. Yamanaka completely ignored the
SSG channels for this soundtrack. This tended to happen only with
western Genesis/Mega Drive soundtracks using inferior audio drivers that
could not communicate with the SN76489 PSG. Not to mention the fact that three channels are dedicated to giving the bass a big stereo image. I … kind of expect better
from Arsys, to be quite honest! I like the composition a lot, but it’s oddly wasteful in the way it is programmed. They didn’t need the OPNA for this.
“Cyberpunk Action” is, apparently, comically bunnyhopping around and smacking robots with a laser baton. And awful autoscrolling platforming. I’m sure that’s in a William Gibson book.
